Did you know that in the U.S., over 200 million health insurance claims are denied daily, and 30% of those claims are denied on first submission? Healthcare providers just accept deny-delay-defend insurance decisions because they take too long to challenge, and the appeals process is confusing and complicated. That’s why I’m on a mission to help healthcare providers, billers, and patients fight insurance claim denials that go beyond the ABCs (administrative, billing, and coding errors). Most insurance claims are denied for reasons that are unclear. We leave the ABC’s (administrative, billing, and coding errors to the billing specialists. We’re like a SWAT team that comes in and addresses the D to Z’s! “The Denial Zone – Not medically necessary. Experimental. Investigative. Bundling. And “Other”, these reasons comprise about 70% of denied claims by insurers!
In my NYC practice, I was done not getting paid for services I provided to patients who needed care. It took me two years, I created a process to add to our billing system, and soon my peers were calling me the “Appeal Queen”. My success rate of over 85% helped me recoup thousands of dollars that had previously been denied. In 2022, after completing my Oxford EMBA, I realized my process could scale and help both healthcare providers and patients. I hired health tech experts, and created a new company called Appeal It, an easy-to-use enter-click-send app. It’s like TurboTax for recovering denied health insurance claims. Designed to be easy, quick, and simple, the Appeal It app has integrated forms, mail, and data trackers that office managers and billers can use to recoup insurance company payments owed to the provider.
I’m excited to be leading this new venture that brings to market a proven solution to a growing problem which unlocks lost revenue for healthcare practitioners and helps reduce the burden of patient debt. While I’m focused on my new startup, I remain a proactive healthcare pioneer who knows that the vital connection between one’s physical, chemical, mental and emotional wellbeing begins in our childhood years. Our current health model needs to change, if we want to direct the world toward a healthier ecosystem of individuals, families, and communities.
